Enter the Confessional

Here it is: my first blog post. I'm not exactly sure at this point what this little piece of cyberspace is or should be, but for now it's just a quasi-public place for me to put some thoughts out there into our postmodern melting pot of confusion. Safe from too many hostile eyes, yet not entirely hidden from the curious.

First and foremost I must confess that I am a Catholic Christian, of the most orthodox kind. A vile creature to many [unfortunate] souls in our world today. While I wouldn't disagree with most on that conclusion, I would almost certainly disagree with a great many on the reason for it. It is not my orthodox Catholic beliefs which make me vile, on the contrary, it is my actions, my thoughts and my words which fail to live up to those beliefs which vilify me.
At any rate this blog will reflect my beliefs and confess those thoughts, words and deeds of mine which I deem appropriate to be made known.

Secondly I must confess that I am a young man, with all that entails. At 22, my mind is no longer so young that I am still in the impressionable flux of adolescence, but I am not yet old enough that I can consider myself in any way wise--so read these words with caution and beware that my opinions are often zealously idealistic, sometimes misguided, and not uncommonly naive or even ignorant. With that said, I welcome criticism and correction, but reject condemnation or calumny. Advice is always appreciated when it is given in charity and honesty.

That should do for a modest introduction; the rest can be gleaned from successive postings. Think of the writing on this webpage as a loosely organised stream-of-consciousness commentary from the young mind of a twenty-something orthodox Catholic, offered for his own catharis, your mild amusement and (hopefully) intriguing ponderance.

Any truth contained in these words owes its existence to the Source of all Truth: the Word of God, revealed in the Person of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who humbly graced this earth with His presence, and promised to return in glory. To His Divine Mind I consecrate my own feeble human mind, made in His image, and dedicate all of its goodness, whilst I beg forgiveness for all of its sinfulness.
In all things I submit to the authority of Sacred Tradition, the Holy Scriptures and the Living Magisterium of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church ruled by the vicar of Christ and successor of Peter the Pope, Bishop of Rome, with all the duly ordained Bishops of the world in communion with him.

Dedicated to the Sacred Head of Jesus Christ
